I actually came across it one day in a Litmus newsletter that mentioned exciting Community posts. MJML started as a project internally to MailJet and from my understanding grew pretty rapidly to become a real value-adding project that they decided to release into the wild.
And when Zurb announced that they were cooking up V2 I waited impatiently for months until the day it was released.but by then I had found MJML.
MJML EMAIL FULL
Getting used to writing "Inky" HTML was a tiny bit of a challenge but once I got the hang of it I was coding at full speed. I used it in several production projects and shaved hours off my dev time and greatly increased my ability to target emails cross-platform - it was wonderful. It's easy to use and has tons of utility built right in. But I personally enjoy MJML because it's mobile-first and forward thinking, the syntax is nicer, and the support community is astounding. If responsive styles are not supported (mostly on desktop clients), tabs are then expanded and your content is readable at once.BLUF: It's down to personal preferences. īecause emails with a lot of content are most of the time a very bad experience on mobile, mj-accordion comes handy when you want to deliver a lot of information in a concise way.Ĭontent is stacked into tabs and users can expand them at will. One of the cool things about it is that there are some built in components such as, miml-accordion and miml-carousel, which output working accordion and carousel widgets, with minimum hassle for developers. There are standard Head and Body components to build the code.
MJML EMAIL HOW TO
The MJML site itself has extensive documentation on how to use it, so I’m not going into those details here, but I’ve added some useful links at the bottom.īasically, a MJML markup would look like the following. I’m using the below gulp task to convert, change the file extension and to copy the output from the source folder into a templates folder const mjml = require('gulp-mjml') With this method, you can save the output to your preferred folders as well. This can be used to create a gulp task to watch and convert you MJML files. If you are using gulp in your project, there is a gulp version as well. If you want to go the hard core way, MJML can be installed via npm as well, and used in the CLI.
It provides easy command palette commands as well as a preview pane, which shows what the output will look. I use VS code, so I’ve installed it via the extensions marketplace.
Plus, as extensions/plugins for VS Code, Atom, and Sublime. There is also a MJML App, which can be downloaded and installed in your machine.
MJML EMAIL CODE
The good news is that there is an online tool where you can code in MJML and it will provide the output HTML. It is a transpiler, which takes MJML code as input and outputs email responsive HTML code, which is compatible with most emails clients. MJML stands for Mailjet Markup Language, and developed by MailJet. I’ve been recently introduced to MJML, which provides a solid framework to craft responsive emails. Luckily there are several responsive email frameworks available out there. Its further worsened by the numerous devices, platforms, and mail clients available these days. HTML for email, hasn’t progressed far like HTML for web, so it still requires old fashioned, and cumbersome coding. The hard part is coding responsive emails that will work on different email clients. This is where making emails responsive is important. It wouldn’t matter how good the content is if the users are not able to read that content easily, and more importantly, on a range of devices. Email campaigns are a big part of modern marketing strategy, and while its success largely depends on the content of the email, how the content is presented also plays a big role.
