My Windows 10 license is for the Home edition. What it does not explain is 1) what version of Windows 11 will be installed on your computer after you exit Windows Insider and 2) how do you verify that you were an owner of Windows 10 so that you will get Windows 11 at no charge. I do in fact have an operating system and VM (except for Norton).īut getting that last steps to a licensed full release of Windows 11 and a working Norton continue to be difficult.

I followed the Parallels instructions to install a prerelease version of Windows 11. I checked my other apps but neglected to check deeper into Parallels and Windows. I fault myself for not doing sufficient research before buying the Mac M1.
This continues to be a frustrating journey. It may in fact work once installed but I can't find out because it will not download. And, to be clear, the problem is that it will not download. So far, the only app I cannot get to work in this Windows 11 environment is Norton. I have followed those instructions and so far everything works, including newer apps like Microsoft 365 and some very old legacy apps dating back 10 years.

Parallels provides instructions on how to load and run Windows 11 on Parallels 17 on an M1 Mac. Windows 10 will not install on Parallels 17, only Windows 11 will. That is when I received the error message that it would not download because it was not compatible with the operating system (Windows 11 I assume).įrom what little I have learned, in order to run Windows on an M1 Mac, I need to run Parallels 17 (which has been designed to run on the M1 chip). After that install, I went to my Norton account web page from a browser running in the virtual machine (Parallels 17 and Windows 11) and attempted to download the latest version of Norton from there. I can't get to the update functions or anything in Settings or System etc from the menu bars, so what is best way to get out of this and start again? That release somehow disabled the Settings and some other things, but I could still use Word/XLS/PPT and some other Apps, however unable to do upgrades. About 2 weeks or so ago, that last Windows insider update loaded, around time MS published removal of plans for M1 chip on Macs.
